Burmese lacquerware – Traditional Black Elephant Lidded Bowl.

This beautiful lacquerware lidded bowl made in bamboo and lacquer is constructed in 2 main parts, opening to reveal a cinnabar coloured compartment. The lid is capped with a carved elephant handle. Although a modern piece, it is deliberately made with a little wear and tear to provide more character.

This is a beautiful and very unusual piece to find on sale in the West.

These are not often found in the UK.
