Thai metal Rattanakosin Buddha statue, in antique gilt bronze finish, large, 44cm high, B15
Thai metal Rattanakosin Buddha statue, in antique gilt bronze finish, large, 44cm high, B15
Cast in metal, in an antique style gilt bronze finish. Extremely attractive piece.
This is a stunning Buddha, in 18th/19th Century Rattanakosin style. It has made made in a very authentic way, and looks very much like a genuine antique Buddha, but has been made recently. Would easily pass as a genuine antique to the uniniatated. A fine decorative piece.
Why is there a label tied around the Buddha?
All Farang Buddhas are imported under licence from Thailand. It is illegal to export Buddhas from Thailand without such licensing – we are one of the few retailers in the UK (we are not actually specifically aware of anybody else who has obtained the appropriate licenses), who have managed to obtain Buddha licences during 2013. This label is issued by the Department of Fine Arts in the Ministry of Culture in Thailand and authorises the export of this buddha. The tag carries the department’s metal seal. The label can be easily removed from the Buddha. This strict licensing is designed to protect Thailand’s cultural heritage and also protects against the illegal export of Thai antiques.
